| How We Started
Our program started in 2004 by a group of mothers on the Upper West Side. The at-home playgroups have since grown into a structured language program with a strong emphasis on family and community.
Designed for both native Mandarin speakers and beginners, the Family Mandarin Program invites students of all fluency levels to gain knowledge of the Mandarin language and Chinese culture. Our students learn in a child-centered environment through age-appropriate activities lead by experienced and dynamic teachers.
Our teachers provide the necessary structure for children to learn effectively. Students acquire their language skills as they would with their first language through immersion activities. Songs, stories, role-play, craft projects, movement, and cultural activities make our hands-on classes and playgroups engaging and effective.
We strive to build a solid foundation for the Mandarin language, and our dynamic teachers provide wonderful insight in introducing a foreign language to American children. All class activities are carefully planned to allow students to learn by their natural progress to learn a language: hearing, speaking, repetition, and piecing together sentence structures.
The cultural experience is completed with monthly cultural events. Whether you are introducing your child to a new language and culture, or looking for a quality class for your budding linguist, our program provides effective and fun classes for you and your child to learn together.
Our Mandarin program is designed for native Mandarin speakers and beginners. Lead teacher Jing Jing Ra creates our dynamic curriculum for children from 6 months to 9 years. Classes and playgroups are child-centered and activity-based. Join our immersion playgroups or classes to explore the Mandarin language, celebrations, and culture!
